4月20日、柔道ファンにとって特別な日となる皇后盃全日本女子柔道選手権大会が開催されました。
Japan’s premier open-weight judo competition for women, the Empress's Cup All-Japan Judo Championships, was held on April 20 — a truly special day for all judo enthusiasts.

日本傳講道館柔道の頂点を争う、無差別級による真剣勝負。
A high-stakes competition to determine the pinnacle of traditional Kodokan Judo in Japan, fought in an open-weight format.

この大会の独自ルールと、それに挑む選手たちの姿が、観る者の心を強く揺さぶる一日となりました。

Victory by Technique or Decision – Which Will It Be?

皇后盃では延長戦（ゴールデンスコア）なし、旗判定による勝敗決定という特別なルールが採用されています。
The Empress’s Cup features a distinctive rule set — no Golden Score overtime; instead, matches are decided by flag decision if no score is achieved.

また、国際審判規定の改定に準じ、帯より下に触れても反則とはならない足取りも認められるなど、最新のルールを積極的に取り入れた大会運営が印象的でした。
In line with the latest IJF rule updates, foot grabs below the belt are now permitted, adding a fresh dimension to the matches.

試合時間についても特徴的で、予選は5分、決勝は8分という日本独自の申し合わせによって実施され、
The match durations also reflect Japan’s unique adjustments: preliminary matches are 5 minutes, and finals 8 minutes, differing from standard international rules.

世界基準を尊重しながらも、日本の柔道文化が色濃く表れた大会だったと言えるでしょう。
The result is a tournament that respects international standards while firmly rooted in the Japanese spirit of judo.

全35試合のうち、19試合（54％）が旗判定。
Out of 35 matches, 19 were decided by judges' flags, accounting for 54%.

しかし、それ以上に注目したいのは、有効以上の技で勝敗が決まった15試合（43％）の内容です。
However, what truly deserves attention is that 15 matches (43%) ended with a decisive score, showcasing the beauty of judo techniques.

その一つひとつが、まさに柔道の真髄とも言える「技の美しさ」「仕掛けの巧妙さ」に満ちており、観る者の心を鷲掴みにしました。

皇后盃に出場するのは、全国10地区の予選を勝ち抜いた精鋭たちに加え、

昨年の決勝進出者、オリンピックメダリストや世界選手権優勝者といった推薦選手。

選抜体重別大会に出場した選手は、選抜体重別大会のわずか2週間後というタイトな日程の中で、

近年、ゴールデンスコアによる延長戦の影響で、「指導」狙いの試合展開が多く見られるようになっていました。
In recent years, matches often extended into Golden Score, leading to more bouts being decided by penalties (shido) rather than skill.

しかし今大会では、できるだけ「技」で勝敗を決することを重視したルールが採用されており、
This tournament emphasized the importance of deciding matches through waza (techniques) rather than passive strategies.

ペナルティの緩和と簡素化も図られ、選手には与えられた試合時間内で鍛え上げた技を存分に発揮することが求められました。
Penalties were simplified and softened, encouraging athletes to fully express their honed techniques within the match time.

選手たちは、時間内に勝負を決めるべく集中力を研ぎ澄まし、観客もまた一瞬たりとも目が離せない展開に息を飲みました。

技で決まった試合の多くは、その技に至る仕掛けの構成や身体の使い方の妙が圧巻で、
