先日、神奈川県柔道連盟主催の「七段・八段昇段祝賀会」が盛大に開催されました。
This past week, the Kanagawa Judo Federation hosted a grand promotion ceremony celebrating promotions to 7th and 8th dan ranks.
この会は、柔道家としての人生の節目を祝う、非常に格式高い式典です。
This prestigious event marks a major milestone in the life of a judoka.
六段までは毎年昇段の機会がありますが、七段・八段となると話は別です。
While promotions up to 6th dan occur annually, things change significantly from the 7th dan onward.
2年に一度、全国の推薦者がその実績をもとに審議され、厳正な審査を経てようやく昇段が認められます。
Promotions to these ranks are only considered every two years and are granted only after careful review of one's lifetime contributions and achievements.
競技としての実績はもちろん、指導者・審判としての貢献、地域や柔道界への普及・発展にどれほど尽力してきたか――それら全てが評価の対象になります。
Not only competitive results, but also contributions as a coach, referee, and efforts to promote and develop judo in the community and beyond are all taken into account.
今年、神奈川県では7名の先生方が七段にご昇段されました。
This year, seven distinguished judoka from Kanagawa were promoted to 7th dan.
その姿を目の前で拝見しながら、私は深く胸を打たれました。
Watching them being honored in person was a deeply moving experience.
「昇段」とは、単なる段位ではありません。
Promotion is more than just a rank.
それは、技術・知識・経験を兼ね備えた“柔道家としての総合的な成長”の証であり、日本傳講道館柔道を正式に修めた証です。
It is a testament to comprehensive growth as a judoka – in technique, knowledge, and experience – and a formal recognition of one’s mastery of Kodokan Judo.
それは、一生ものの資格であり、国境を越えて通用する誇りでもあります。
It is a lifelong credential, recognized with pride across the globe.

私自身、六段となって9年が経ちました。
It has been nine years since I attained my 6th dan.
これまで多くの方々に支えられ、競技、指導、普及活動に励んでまいりましたが、今回の祝賀会で改めて心に火が灯りました。
Over the years, I have received great support and dedicated myself to competition, teaching, and judo promotion. This ceremony reignited my passion.
「次の段へ進むために、自分は何をすべきか」
「どんな柔道家でありたいか」
"What should I do to reach the next level?"
"What kind of judoka do I want to become?"
年齢を重ねても、成長を止めてはいけない。
Even as we grow older, we must never stop growing.
七段へ向けて、今一度自分を磨き、地域の子どもたちや後進の指導、柔道の普及活動に一層力を入れていこうと決意しています。
As I work toward the 7th dan, I am renewing my commitment to refine myself and contribute more actively to teaching the next generation and spreading judo.
柔道は、単なる武道ではなく、「人を育てる道」です。
Judo is not just a martial art – it is a path that nurtures people.
そしてその道を歩み続けることこそが、柔道家の本懐であると信じています。
Continuing to walk this path is, I believe, the true mission of a judoka.
これからも、感謝と誇りを胸に、一歩ずつ前へ進んでいきます。
With gratitude and pride, I will continue moving forward, step by step.
