浅草の三社祭・親友との再会 Asakusa's Sanja Matsuri and Reuniting with an Old Friend

十数年ぶりに、浅草の三社祭に行って来ました。

After more than a decade, I returned to Asakusa's Sanja Matsuri.

高校生の頃、浅草出身の同級生から「浅草の街は三社祭のために一年を過ごすんだよ！」と教えられ、一度だけ一緒にこの祭りを観に行きました。

When I was in high school, a classmate from Asakusa once told me, "The town lives the whole year for Sanja Matsuri!" We went to see the festival together just once.

浅草の街は、その期間中、カラフルな人々や地方から集まる担ぎ屋たちで溢れかえります。

During the festival, Asakusa is overflowing with colorful people and bearers from all over the country. 

まるで祭りのためなら何をやってもOKと言わんばかりの不思議な雰囲気に包まれるのです。

The town is enveloped in an atmosphere that feels as if anything is permissible for the sake of the festival.

来年還暦を迎える歳になり、私はふとそんな独特な空気を再び感じたくなり、足を運びたいと思った瞬間に親友に声をかけました。

As I approach my sixtieth year, I felt a sudden urge to experience that unique atmosphere once more, so I reached out to my old friend.

親友。やはりかけがえのないものなのですね。

Old friends are truly irreplaceable. 

気持ちが通じあうからこそ、声をかけると即答で「OK」と返事が返ってきました。

Because we understand each other so well, he immediately replied "OK" when I asked if he would join me.

そして、時間を合わせて一緒に浅草の街を歩き、三社祭を堪能しました。

We coordinated our schedules, walked through the streets of Asakusa, and fully enjoyed the Sanja Matsuri together. 

せっかくの再会だからと、一献を交わしながら語り合うと、時間がいくらあっても足りないほどでした。

Since it was a rare reunion, we shared drinks and talked, finding that time was never enough.

同級生と！

三社祭の神輿は、素人が簡単に担げるものではないと聞きました。

I've heard that the Sanja Matsuri's mikoshi (portable shrines) are not easily carried by amateurs. 

しかし、来年還暦を迎える祝いに、友の力を借りてでも一瞬でも良いから神輿を担いでみたいと思いました。

However, as a celebration of my sixtieth birthday, I wanted to experience carrying the mikoshi, even if just for a moment, with the help of my friend.

2025年5月、果たしてその夢を叶えることができるでしょうか？

Will I be able to fulfill this dream in May 2025?

健康で、神輿を担ぐ体力をしっかりと作り上げておきたいと強く思いながら帰路に着きました。

 As I headed home, I strongly felt the need to maintain my health and build the strength required to carry the mikoshi.

親友と過ごした三社祭の不思議な時は私をそんな気持ちにさせてくれました。

The magical time I spent at Sanja Matsuri with my friend left me feeling this way.

あの瞬間、私は確かに幸せを感じていました。

 In those moments, I truly felt happiness.

三社祭。

Sanja Matsuri is not just a festival. 

単なる祭りではなく、親友との絆を再確認し、もしかしたら自分の未来を見据える大切な時間になったのかもしれません。

It was a precious time to reaffirm my bond with an old friend and perhaps to glimpse into my future.

また来年も、この特別な祭りのために浅草に戻ってきたいなぁと思いました。

I hope to return to Asakusa again next year for this special festival. 

そして、その時はぜひとも神輿を担ぐ夢を叶えたい。

And when I do, I definitely want to realize my dream of carrying the mikoshi.
