Historic Monuments of Kyoto Former BUTOKUDEN Hall
京都は左京区に武徳殿という武道場があります。
In Kyoto, there is a martial arts center called Butokuden in Sakyo Ward.
1899年(明治32年)に大日本武徳会により演武場として木造で造営された日本最古の演武場。
This is the oldest wooden demonstration hall in Japan, built in 1899 by the Dainippon Butokukai.
The first time I visited this place was during my second or third year in the workforce, at the Kyoto Prefecture Regional Judo Tournament.
京都に事業所がある会社が集まり勝負する団体戦。
A group competition where companies with offices in Kyoto gather to compete.
京阪電車、ワコール、松下電器(当時)と多くの会社が集い、真剣に戦っていました。
Keihan Electric Railway, Wacoal, Matsushita Electric (at that time) and many other companies gathered and fought earnestly.
そして、試合後は京都祇園や河原町界隈での慰労会。
And after the game, we had a consolation party in the Gion and Kawaramachi areas of Kyoto.
翌日からの仕事への英気を養っていました。
I was feeling rejuvenated for the next day's work.
This is a historical building with a very atmospheric martial arts hall.
We were able to play the game while feeling the atmosphere of the place.
その歴史については少し長くなるので割愛させて頂くが数々の歴史に名を残す試合が繰り広げられたようです。
The history of the tournament is a bit lengthy, so I'll spare you the details, but it seems that many historic games were played.
京都市指定有形文化財であり、平成8年には国の指定文化財を受けるに至ったとの事。
It is designated as a tangible cultural property by the city of Kyoto, and in 1996, it was designated as a national cultural property.
