In September 2019, I attended the wedding of Marcel, a friend from Jakarta who I trained with at Shanghai Ryushinkan, a judo hall in Shanghai, China.
中国赴任中に上海龍心館で一緒に稽古をした柔道仲間の結婚の知らせを受け、即座に参加を決めました。
When I received the news of the marriage of a fellow judo practitioner with whom I had trained at the Shanghai Ryushinkan during my assignment in China, I immediately decided to participate.
「せっかく行くから柔道着を持って行くよ！」とメールに書き添えておくと、その言葉を真剣に受け止め「OK、柔道やりましょう！」との返信。
I wrote in my e-mail, "Since I'm going, I'll bring my judo uniform! ” He took my words seriously and replied, “OK, let's do judo! ”
まさか？と思いながらもスーツケースには柔道着をしっかりと忍ばせフライト。
No way! I thought to myself, but I kept my judo uniform in my suitcase and took a flight.
現地に到着し、晩飯を食べながらお話していると、二日後に結婚式の新郎Marcelは「明日、柔道やるよ〜」って。
As we were talking over dinner, Marcel, the groom, who was getting married in two days, said, "I'm going to do judo tomorrow.
到着した翌日、昼から彼の家に集合となり、ご自宅に伺うとなんと柔道場があるじゃないですか！
The day after we arrived, we met at his house at noon, and when we went to his house, we were surprised to find that he had a judo hall!
それでは皆んなで稽古しよう！上海でお別れして以来、８年ぶりに一緒に柔道の稽古。
Let's all practice together! It's been eight years since we parted ways in Shanghai, and now we're practicing judo together.
とっても素敵な、良い汗を流せました。
It was very nice, and I worked up a good sweat.
柔道って、世界の全ての皆様に愛してもらえる素晴らしい競技（武道）ですね！
Judo is a wonderful sport (martial art) that can be loved by everyone in the world!
お互いに真剣に組み合い、一緒に柔道の稽古をしただけで言葉を飛び越え、心一つになる！そんな素晴らしい、日本発の競技（武道）なんですね！
The mere act of practicing Judo with each other in earnest transcends language and brings us together as one! It's such a wonderful sport (martial art) that originated in Japan!
先日開催された東京２０２０。
Tokyo 2020 was held recently.
この大会でも日本柔道はその素晴らしさを世界に発信できたと思います。
I believe that Japan Judo was able to show its excellence to the world at this tournament.
私は、勝利も確かに大切な事ですが、この柔道の稽古を通じて世界の皆さんが心を通わせ、コミュニケーションできる素晴らしさを多くの皆さんに体験して頂きたい！
Winning is certainly important, but I want as many people as possible to experience the greatness of being able to communicate with people from all over the world through judo training.
そんな事をいつも思って、柔道の普及と発展を進めています。
It is always with this in mind that I promote the spread and development of judo.
