From Austria to Yokohama — a young judoka who comes back every summer, and became part of our Judo family.
一通のメールから、すべてが始まった。
2026年夏。
今年もオーストリアから、一人の青年が横浜にやって来ました。
道衣をバッグに詰めて、横浜の畳へ。
彼と横浜土曜柔道会との出会いは、2022年7月まで遡ります。
「日本で柔道の稽古をしたい！」
そんな思いを綴った、一通のメールが届いたことが始まりでした。
オーストリアで学んできた柔道を、
もっとレベルアップしたい。
その思いを胸に、横浜まで稽古に来てくれました。
A Journey That Began With One Email
Summer 2026.
Once again, a young judoka from Austria came to Yokohama to train with us.
His judogi packed in his bag, he stepped onto the tatami in Yokohama.
Our connection with him goes all the way back to July 2022.
It all started with one email:
“I want to come to Japan and train in judo!”
He wanted to improve the judo he had learned in Austria and take his skills to the next level.
And so, he made the journey all the way to Yokohama to train with us.

あれから5年。
今では、お母様の母国である日本への夏休みの帰省に合わせて、毎年、道衣を持って横浜へ。
そして、私たちにとっても、
「海外から来た柔道家」ではなく、
毎年帰ってくる大切な仲間、そして家族のような存在です。
今年はさらに一歩進んで、
「布田塾」の塾生として、柔道の基本を徹底的に学んでいます。
Five Years Later…
Today, every summer during his visit to Japan, the country of his mother's birth, he brings his judogi and returns to Yokohama.
For us, he is no longer simply a judoka visiting from overseas.
He has become a special member of our Judo family —
someone we look forward to welcoming back every summer.
This year, he has taken another step forward.
He has become a student of “Nunoda Judo Labo”, where he is working intensively on the fundamentals of judo.
技を学ぶなら、まず基本から。
火曜日の一般稽古、通称 「布田塾 ～Nunoda Judo Labo～」。
ここには現在、海外からも柔道家が「技を学びたい」とやって来ます。
ただ乱取りをするだけではありません。
組み手、姿勢、崩し、作り、掛け。
一つひとつの基本動作を確認しながら、
その基本が実際の乱取りでどう生きるのか。
基本から応用へ。
そして、実践へ。
「技を覚える」のではなく、
「技が使える」柔道へ。
布田塾では、そんな稽古を目指しています。
When Learning Judo, Start With the Fundamentals.
Tuesday's adult training session is known as “Nunoda Judo Labo.”
Judo practitioners from around the world come here because they want to learn and improve their techniques.
But this is not simply a place for randori.
Grip fighting. Posture. Kuzushi. Tsukuri. Kake.
We carefully work through each fundamental movement and then explore how those fundamentals can be applied during actual randori.
From fundamentals to application.
From practice to real action.
Our goal is not simply to “learn techniques,” but to develop judo that you can actually use.
That is what we are working toward at Nunoda Judo Labo.
横浜の畳に、世界が集まる。
この5年間で、横浜土曜柔道会も大きく変わりました。
今では毎回、70名を超える柔道家が集まる稽古の場に。
そして火曜日の布田塾にも、
日本だけでなく、世界各国から柔道家が訪れています。
国籍も、年齢も、競技歴も関係ない。
同じ道衣を着て、
同じ畳の上で汗を流す。
それが柔道の素晴らしさだと思います。
The World Comes Together on the Tatami in Yokohama.
Over these past five years, Yokohama Saturday Judo Club has grown tremendously.
Today, more than 70 judoka regularly gather for our training sessions.
And at Tuesday's Nunoda Judo Labo, judoka from Japan and around the world come together to learn and improve.
Nationality doesn't matter.
Age doesn't matter.
Competition experience doesn't matter.
We put on the same judogi,
step onto the same tatami,
and sweat together.
That, to me, is one of the greatest things about judo.
火曜日の夜、一時間。
社会人にとって、火曜日の夜は決して暇な時間ではありません。
仕事もある。
家庭もある。
やらなければならないこともある。
それでも、
一週間の中で、一時間だけ自分のために時間をつくる。
その一時間が、
技術を高め、身体を動かし、仲間と出会い、
そして未来の自分への投資になるかもしれません。
さあ、火曜日の夜。
仕事を終えたら道衣を持って、横浜の畳へ。
世界の柔道家と一緒に、柔道やろうぜ！
One Hour on Tuesday Night.
For working adults, Tuesday evening is not exactly free time.
There is work.
There is family.
There are always things that need to be done.
But what if you made just one hour a week for yourself?
One hour to improve your technique.
One hour to move your body.
One hour to meet new people.
One hour to invest in your future self.
So, this Tuesday night…
When work is done, grab your judogi and come to the tatami in Yokohama.
