講道館資料館 Kodokan Museum
鏡開式にトンガ王国特命全権大使のマンギシ大使をお連れし、とっても多くの学びの扉が開きました。
We were honored to have Ambassador Mangisi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Tonga, with us for the Kagami Opening Ceremony, which opened the door to so much learning.
鏡開式で「形」の演武を全て観た後に2階の資料館へ移動。
After watching all the "kata" demonstrations at the Kagami Opening Ceremony, we moved to the second floor of the museum.
資料館津村先生から丁重な英語で柔道の歴史他を詳しくご説明頂きました。
Mr. Tsumura gave us a detailed explanation of the history of judo and other subjects in polite English.
大使そして私も感嘆したのが講道館落成式の際に嘉納師範が演武された「形」を勝海舟先生がご覧になり感動し寄贈された書。
The Ambassador and I were also impressed by the calligraphy donated by Kaishu Katsu, who was so moved by the kata demonstrated by Kano Shihan at the inauguration ceremony of the Kodokan.
「無心而入自然之妙無為而窮変化之神」
「無心にして自然の事妙に入り、無為にして変化の神を窮（きわ）む」
「心を乱すことなく、自然の驚異を感じ、意図的に行動することなく、変化の本質を追究する。」
With no disturbance in mind, feel the wonder of nature and without intentional actions, pursue the essence of changes

なぜこのお二人が繋がるのか？
Why are these two men connected?
柔道有段者、ましてや高段者の皆様は既にご存知か！？
Judo practitioners, and even higher dan holders, already know this!？
津村先生のご説明から歴史を紐解くと嘉納師範の父・次郎作は江戸に清酒を送る廻船業を営んでいたそうです。
According to Tsumura-sensei's explanation, Kano's father, Jiro-saku, was a shipping agent who sent sake to Edo.
そして次郎作は幕府の務めで江戸大阪間の定期運航をされていたそうです！
And Jiro Saku was on regular service between Edo and Osaka on behalf of the Shogunate!
かの有名な軍艦奉行・勝海舟と神戸に行けば、必ず嘉納家に寝泊まりしていた間柄だったそうです。
Whenever he went to Kobe with the famous Kaishu Katsu, the famous military officer of warships, they always stayed together at the Kano family's house.
父・次郎作は勝海舟先生から今後の日本の方向性を聞き、必然的に英語を息子の治五郎師範に学ばせたそうです。
His father, Jiro Saku, heard from Dr. Kaishu Katsu about the future direction of Japan and inevitably had his son, Master Jigoro, learn English.
日本初の渡米使節団として咸臨丸で米国に渡り、外国との交流が本格化していく時代の変化を知る勝海舟との出会い。
Encounter with Kaishu Katsu, who traveled to the U.S. on the Kanrin Maru as Japan's first mission to the U.S. and was aware of the changing times in which foreign exchanges were gaining momentum.
そのお陰で嘉納師範は弟子たちを直ちに海外へ派遣し柔道指導そして普及に着手したと言えるそうです。
Thanks to his encounter with Kaishu Katsu, Shihan Kano immediately dispatched his disciples overseas to teach and spread judo.
1882年に東京下谷北稲荷町（現在の台東区東上野）にある永昌寺で柔道創設から141年。
It has been 141 years since Judo was founded in 1882 at Eishoji Temple in Kita-inari-cho, Shimotani, Tokyo (present-day Higashi Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo).
現在、２０４カ国、２３２万人を超える老若男女が世界中で柔道衣を着て心身の鍛錬に励んでいます。
Today, more than 2.32 million men and women of all ages and from all over the world in 204 countries wear judo uniform and train their bodies and minds.
一期一会。
One encounter at a time.
人との出会い、そして繋がりって、本当に大切なのですね。
Encounters and connections with people are really important.
２０２３年が始まりました。
The year 2023 has begun.
新しい活動で、新しい出会いに恵まれました。
We are blessed with new activities and new encounters.

そんな新年のスタートとなった鏡開式でした。
The Kagami-Opening Ceremony was the start of such a new year.
