初訪問そしてご挨拶 First Visit and Greetings
1月8日はトンガ王国マンギシ大使様をお連れして講道館 鏡開式に参加させて頂きました。
On January 8, I accompanied Ambassador Mangisi of the Kingdom of Tonga to the Kodokan Kagami Biraki Ceremony.
先日、大使館に訪問、打合せさせて頂いた時に大使から「講道館に訪問、柔道を見たい」とご要望頂き、その実現をお約束させて頂き、活動を進めました。
During our recent visit and meeting at the Embassy, the Ambassador expressed his wish to visit the Kodokan and see judo.
館長 上村春樹先生をはじめ全日本柔道連盟会長 山下泰裕先生、同 副会長 野瀬清喜先生、横浜国立大学教授 木村昌彦先生、全日本柔道連盟ブランディング特別推進委員 委員長 井上康生先生と多くの先生方にご挨拶、ご紹介が出来ました。
I was able to greet and introduce Ambassador Mangisi to many teachers, including Mr. Haruki Uemura, Director of the Kodokan, Mr. Yasuhiro Yamashita, President of the All Japan Judo Federation, Mr. Seiki Nose, Vice President of the All Japan Judo Federation, Mr. Masahiko Kimura, Professor of Yokohama National University, and Mr. Kosei Inoue, Chairman of the Special Promotion Committee for Branding of the All Japan Judo Federation.

技の原理「形」の演武 Demonstration of "Kata," the principle of techniques
寛仁親王妃信子妃殿下様もご臨席頂き、厳かに式典が進みました。
The ceremony proceeded in a solemn manner with Nobuko, Princess Tomohito of Mikasa in attendance.

新春を迎えた講道館大道場で「形」の演武が執り行われ、７種類の「形」全てを初めて見る事ができました。
The kata demonstration was held at the Kodokan Main Dojo in the New Year, and all seven kata were seen for the first time.
嘉納治五郎師範は形をマスターした後に初めて乱取を許可していたと伺っています。
I heard that Jigoro Kano Shihan allowed Randori only after mastery of the kata.
演武を通じ、技の原理そしてその理合いの大切さを深く理解する事が出来ました。
Through the demonstrations, I was able to deeply understand the principles of the techniques and the importance of their rationale.
歴史を学ぶ Learning History
鏡開式終了後は講道館2階の資料館に訪問。
After the Kagami Biraki Ceremony, we visited the museum on the second floor of the Kodokan.
講道館の歴史、柔道の考え方など津村先生から英語で詳しくご説明頂き、マンギシ大使様にも柔道の素晴らしさを深くご理解頂く事が出来たと思います。
Tsumura Sensei gave a detailed explanation in English about the history of the Kodokan and the concept of judo, and I believe that Ambassador Mangisi was able to gain a deep understanding of the excellence of judo.
マンギシ大使様は勝海舟が嘉納治五郎師範に寄贈した書に感銘を受けたご様子でした。
Ambassador Mangisi was impressed by the calligraphy donated by Kaishu Katsu to Master Jigoro Kano.

With no disturbance in mind, feel the wonder of nature and without intentional actions, pursue the essence of changes

文化交流の架け橋 A bridge for cultural exchange
講道館スタッフの皆様のお陰で大変有意義な時間を過ごす事が出来ました。
Thanks to the Kodokan staff, I had a very meaningful time.
上村館長とマンギシ大使様も初顔合わせ、面談させて頂く事が出来ました。
It was the first time for us to meet and talk with President Uemura and Ambassador Mangisi.
私達はこの柔道を通じてトンガ王国様と日本の更なる文化交流の架け橋となるべく今後も具体的に活動を推進して参ります。
We will continue to promote specific activities to build a bridge for further cultural exchange between the Kingdom of Tonga and Japan through judo.
